Potlucks are great. Everyone loves the chance to get together with friends and family, and try out all the delicious foods that people bring. Unfortunately, making a dish for a potluck can be stressful. It’s hard to know what to make, it’s hard to find time to make it, and this leads many people to simply baking brownies and being done with the whole thing.
Luckily, there are a few easy dishes for potlucks that are out there. They don’t take a huge amount of time and effort, and they’re sure to be well loved by everyone.
One of the most simple dishes is chili. Get a crock pot, some ground beef, some pinto beans, and some tomatoes. How much of each depends on how many people you’re wanting to feed. Chop the tomatoes, soak the beans in water for a bit to soften them up, and then toss it all into the crock pot. Lastly, add a cup or two of water. Spice to taste with chili powder, and let it sit for a few hours. Check on it while it’s cooking. If it seems too thin, toss in a bit of corn starch or flour to thicken.
You could do the same thing with beef stew. Use beef cubes and add carrots, and you’ve got a great soup.
If you’d rather not make a soup or stew, you could always make ka-bobs. Buy some wooden skewers, some meat such as chicken breasts or steak. Get some vegetables such as green or red peppers, and perhaps some pineapple. Cut them all into cubes and pieces, slide three or four of these pieces, perhaps two pieces of meat and two vegetables, and then toss them either onto the grill or bake them.
